Popeye the Sailor Mensch T‑Shirt
$26.00
This design is a fun mash-up between Popeye the Sailor Man and one of the most famous "I am" declarations in history: G-d's own words to Moses at the Burning Bush.
Popeye's signature line has always been "I yam what I am, and that's all what I am." Turns out, he's echoing some pretty exalted company. When Moses asked G-d for a name to bring back to the Israelites in Egypt, the answer he got was Ehyeh-Asher-Ehyeh, "I Am That I Am" (or "I Will Be What I Will Be"), straight out of Exodus 3:14. Same energy, several thousand years apart.
The rest of the design leans into it: Popeye's sailor cap now carries a Star of David, his can of spinach is stamped כשר (kosher), and his tattoos tell their own story: a heart wrapped in an olive branch, and a steamship inked "S.S. Exodus 3:14," a nod to the real 1947 ship that carried thousands of Holocaust survivors toward a Jewish homeland.
Head down the Rabbi Hole for the full story behind the tattoos, the verse, and the ship that helped launch a nation. Gotta Love the Jews!
